Requirements

New final packaging concept for active ingredient patches

Packaging of pharmaceutical products:

Schubert-Pharma impressed LTS Lohmann Therapie-Systeme AG with attractively designed packaging and a fully automated process

LTS Lohmann Therapie-Systeme AG, as a contract packer, had to fundamentally revise the final packaging concept for an active ingredient patch in order to fulfil an order from a Belgian customer. The goal was to make it easier for the patient to handle and use the product. Schubert-Pharma developed the new packaging design with the view to providing an attractive solution for efficient line operation. The result is a fully automated packaging process, which includes the precise counting of sealed-rim pouches and the additional weighing of pharmaceutical products.

Solution

Integrated packaging processes for attractive secondary packaging

The TLM packaging machine at LTS brings together various individual packaging components, such as the lid and bottom trays, carton blanks, plastic covers and the patient information leaflet (PIL) into an attractive final packaging solution. Schubert-Pharma combined various machine units into a complete system in order to load the trays with the patches shrink-wrapped in sealed-rim pouches. Schubert-Pharma also developed an efficient solution with ultrasonic sealing, which is seamlessly integrated into the TLM line, in order to ensure an attractive-looking seal seam between the trays and the carton blanks. The machine can also handle other formats of sealed-rim pouches and trays.

With the TLM packaging line, we have a very technologically advanced and customised solution for efficiently producing and filling challenging packaging.

Technical Details

Exceptional seal quality and flexible formats

Excellent seal quality between the trays and the carton blank is achieved through ultrasonic sealing using a block sonotrode. Costs are saved in the long term through easier handling and lower lifecycle costs. Each sonotrode is configured individually and simply via the Schubert operator control panel. Individual control of the sonotrodes enables qualitative monitoring of each individual seal. Different sizes of sealed-rim pouches as well as other tray cavities and colours can be changed quickly. In spite of different patch sizes, only the loading tool on the F2 robot will need to be converted to make this possible. All other tools are universally designed for all packaging sizes, so no further format parts are necessary.

  • Output of 40 packs per minute
  • Different sizes of Patches
  • Various inner contour trays
  • Sealing tray with carton blank
  • Packaging with serial number
  • Transmodul in use

Schubert-Pharma developed a fully automated process for this new, attractive final packaging.

Lids and base trays are sealed with a carton blank using ultrasonic technology.

Two friction feeders count up to 1,200 patches into stacks of various sizes depending on the type of packaging.

The precisely counted number of sealed-rim pouches are only placed into the trays after successful check weighing.

Different sizes of sealed-rim pouches, alternative tray cavities and colours, can all be changed quickly.
