Gerhard Schubert GmbH

Schubert remains a reliable partner with innovative, tailor-made solutions

As one of the leading and most innovative packaging machine manufacturers worldwide, Gerhard Schubert GmbH from Crailsheim will of course be amongst the exhibitors at the upcoming FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg. In Hall 1, Stand 219, the experts from Schubert will be presenting their answers to development trends and current questions in the packaging industry from 24 to 26 September 2019. Anyone wishing to gain an even deeper insight into Schubert's philosophy and expertise will have an opportunity to visit the Crailsheim plant throughout the week – including various packaging lines in operation.

The design freedom of 3D printing allows optimally shaped tools even for fragile and complex product shapes.

In the future, the packaging industry will also have to master the balancing act between economic viability, legal requirements and social demands. The “Environmentally friendly packaging” motto, which will set the tone at the FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg, bears witness to this fact. Schubert will not only be addressing the issue at its stand, but will also demonstrate precisely how customers can derive added value from it. With Schubert-Consulting as its engineering partner, the company offers manufacturer-independent, comprehensive consulting services for cost-effective conversion to sustainable packaging materials. This ranges from the development of new packaging and its registration in accordance with the new European Packaging Act (VerpackG), through concept development and process planning, to the selection of suitable machine suppliers. Additionally, new requirements from the online mail order business are also taken into account: today, entirely different packing schemes, packing sizes and materials are required than in the stationary trade, which predominantly uses display packs.

Just like the customer machine at the trade fair booth, Schubert’s compact lightline Cartonpacker efficiently packs products made of various materials into cartons.

Compact customer machine packs chocolate into folding boxes

A customer machine at the Schubert booth will demonstrate how cardboard boxes can be used instead of packaging film in the packaging process. The exceptionally compact lightline Cartonpacker consists of three sub-machines in two machine frames with the functions of erecting the carton trays, filling and sealing. It packs chocolate bars in display cartons, which are fed via two belts with an output of 120 bars per minute each. The 200-gram chocolate bars are not packed in a film sleeve, but in a cardboard folding box. During processing, the products which enter the machine lying flat, are first placed on edge in a grouping chain, pushed together and then placed in blocks into a carton tray. In this process, the packaging material of the chocolate bars plays practically no role for the system.

3D tools for short-term new requirements

The highly valued flexibility of Schubert’s machines does not stop with the packaging material itself. It is also enabled by Schubert’s individually manufactured robot tools. 3D printing in particular now offers options that were previously unthinkable. The comparatively fast production of these parts makes it possible to respond quickly to new products and changing customer requirements. The design freedom also allows optimally shaped tools, even for fragile and complex product shapes. At the trade fair, Schubert will present a selection of 3D tools which have been designed to date as well as those used in real systems, and will provide information on future opportunities of the digital trend.

Interested visitors can gain even more detailed insight into the technology of Schubert’s packaging machines at the manufacturer’s parallel in-house exhibition: the Crailsheim plant will be open to visitors between Monday, 23 September, and Friday, 27 September. There, Schubert will present various packaging systems in operation and guide visitors through the production process.
