The lightline Flowpacker wins over visitors at the ProSweets fair

Over 50 per cent more visitors than last year is Schubert’s positive conclusion following the ProSweets 2019 fair in Cologne. From large international corporations to medium-sized industrial companies to smaller manufacturing operations – the confectionery industry took advantage of the opportunity to immerse itself in the detail about the efficient packaging solutions from Gerhard Schubert GmbH. This resulted in several definite projects for various automation solutions from the Schubert portfolio. The Schubert Packaging Systems GmbH subsidiary’s expertise in turnkey lines and engineering consulting services was also in great demand.

The Schubert lightline Flowpacker on exhibit impressed fair visitors with its innovative heat-sealing technology.

The Schubert lightline Flowpacker on exhibit impressed fair visitors with its innovative heat-sealing technology. The machine gently packs heat-sensitive products such as chocolate into flowpacks – at a rate of 250 products per minute. The new sealing technology ensures a flawless process and even compensates for fluctuating product feed rates. This is made possible by the patented flying cross-sealing unit, which guarantees constant sealing times at variable chain speeds. Another significant advantage of Schubert’s technology is the compact machine layout that results from the use of robots. Compared to a traditional flow-wrapping system with a conventional infeed, the lightline Flowpacker with the integrated Flowmodul requires only a third of the floor space. “The compact design of our systems enables many companies to create entirely new factory layouts while making room for further production capacities,” highlights Martin Sauter, Sales Manager at Gerhard Schubert GmbH. “Moreover, our machines stand out with their integrated 3D image processing system, which ensures that only flawless products enter the Flowmodul’s infeed system.”

The Flowpacker is part of the new lightline machine series, which includes three preconfigured TLM packaging machines for standard packaging tasks. In addition to the Flowpacker, the series includes the lightline Cartonpacker for packaging products into cartons and the lightline Pickerline for pick & place applications. A key advantage is that these extremely compact, efficient systems are characterised by attractive investment costs and short delivery times.

Final packaging specialist in turnkey lines and engineering consulting

With its comprehensive integrated solutions and consulting services, engineering service provider Schubert Packaging Systems clearly meets the needs of trade fair visitors. Food and confectionery manufacturers were especially interested in the analysis of existing packaging processes and lines. In the case of these so-called brownfield projects, for instance, the Schubert subsidiary develops concepts for capacity expansion or the replacement of machinery to maintain market supply.

At the ProSweets 2019 fair, Schubert presented its lightline Flowpacker that uses state-of-the-art heat-sealing technology to process mixed packs containing two different, heat-sensitive products.

Investment-safe and sustainable

At the booth, Schubert also presented examples of trays made from cardboard materials. “With the growing debate about avoiding plastic waste, good ideas are clearly needed. Today, our machines can quite simply erect and fill flat carton blanks instead of the more conventional and widely used plastic trays,” explains Martin Sauter. With these concrete packaging alternatives, Schubert is showing how customers can expand the modular TLM machines for future applications while responding to changes in the market with flexibility.
