After close to “100 days in office”, Schubert’s junior staff sum up their experiences as very positive. The training team headed by Dagmar Schubert is especially pleased about the feedback. Autumn is always an exciting time for her and her team: “My training colleagues and I were very much looking forward to the beginning of the new training cycle. It is always exciting for us to see how our trainees find their own individual path during their training programme. We are delighted to be able to support and accompany them along this way.”
Team spirit counts
In order to give the new trainees the most motivating start in the company, the first few days were devoted to getting to know each other and the trainers, as well as a detailed tour of the company. Many of the new employees report unanimously on the friendly working atmosphere and the marked welcome culture in their teams and departments. David Quint, apprentice in machining mechanics, was able to quickly overcome his initial shyness: “I appreciate being treated in a friendly way as a newbie and to have direct support for every question that arises. In addition, the colleagues in the team always show you how to prevent mistakes and how to do things better.” This is also confirmed by aspiring industrial mechanic Johanna Hessenthaler, who adds: “I find it very reassuring to know that we can make mistakes and learn from them. And I really like the fact that we work as a team with the more experienced trainees.”
Good preparation is very motivating
To ensure that the leap into working life runs as smoothly as possible and that sources of error are minimised in advance, Schubert experts instruct all new trainees in various preparation courses on proper drilling, filing and sawing as well as on first aid – regardless of which occupation the trainee starts with at Schubert. “ After an explanation of how a circuit with contactor and relay works, and simulation and planning on the computer, we were allowed to set up the first circuits ourselves,” says Sebastian Kranz, a mechatronics engineer in his first year of training, recalling his first weeks in the company.
Schubert has had positive experiences handing over project responsibility to trainees as soon as possible after they join the company. Oliver Kuchar, a student at the Cooperative State University in Mosbach, also appreciates this approach: “I went through a short familiarisation phase, after which I more or less immediately got my first very own project assignments for the further development of Schubert’s GRIPS.World online platform, which I will soon be able to work on independently. I was very impressed and it motivated me a lot for my further studies at Schubert.”
A highlight: a visit to the fachpack trade fair
The joint visit with the trainers to the Nuremberg FachPack, which is described by all trainees as the highlight of the first few months at Schubert, also contributed to the motivation. “There we were able to gain a unique overview of the entire spectrum of the packaging industry and gather many different impressions that will help us with our training,” reports Maria Meiser, trainee specialist for warehouse logistics.
Gerhard Schubert GmbH is currently training 86 apprentices in eight industrial and commercial occupations, including electronics technicians for automation technology, mechatronic technicians, IT specialists for system integration and application development, warehouse logisticians, mechatronic technicians, industrial mechanics and industrial clerks. Moreover, there are eight cooperative university students from the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and information technology.
