FAQ on manufacturer access to machine data

Uwe Galm, Director Customer Services bei der Gerhard Schubert GmbH

By their very nature, the machine data of a running production are not intended to be viewed by everyone. But a targeted analysis can give manufacturers a competitive edge. Is it worthwhile to also rely on the expertise of the machine manufacturer for data analysis, including sharing of relevant data? Uwe Galm, Director Customer Services at Schubert, provides the answers.

What are the benefits of digital services such as machine data analysis?

“Targeted data analysis helps avoid unplanned downtime, reduce rejects and increase productivity. All in all, this means more efficiency, more sustainability and greater competitiveness in the long run.”

Isn’t the in-house operational effort prohibitive?

“With customised services and the right training – as offered by Schubert – companies can decide for themselves which part of the data processing they want to handle in-house or outsource to experts.”

Are we unwillingly supplying confidential production data to the competition?

“After production and commissioning, the machine manufacturers are familiar with the general machine data anyway. For up-to-date evaluations, we at Schubert ensure the prerequisites for a secure IT architecture with our GS.Gate and we also attach the greatest importance to flawless contractual agreements with our customers.”

Can’t we simply do the data analysis ourselves?

“It really depends on a company’s in-house expertise and the goal to be achieved with the analysis. Of course, machine manufacturers know their lines better than customers do. Our experts can delve more deeply into the various levels of raw data, identify correlations and therefore find a solution much more quickly.”
